About the Project

In Macau, benches are a popular outdoor recreational spot for the elderly, who constitute a quarter of the population. There are 2 problems with them. First, they do not have enough functionality to accommodate all of the elderly’s needs. Secondly, Macau’s tropical climate often force elderly to leave their favourite spot due to the rain or the heat.

Developing ElderBench from standard outdoor bench designs, we preserve familiarity to users while adding small innovations adjustments, and modern engineering features to improve on their experiences.

Box located at the back of the bench to store game boards so elderly can get it easily.

Some seniors like to bring their personally designed chess boards to play in the park. These game boards can now be inserted into the slits of ElderBench's arm rest, promoting 1 to 1 social interactions with everyone.

Holds baggages, canes, and umbrellas for the elderly.

Our slide-in rail design allows us to always expand and upgrade this project, as we can always develop new attachments to put on the benches.
